Checking in With NYT

Every once in awhile I like to check in with the world of business books. One interesting way to stay in touch is by checking out what’s selling via The New York Times’ Best Seller lists. Here’s the list of the top ten best-selling hardcover business books that will be published in NYT’s Book Review report this coming Sunday:

  1. LEAN IN, by Sheryl Sandberg with Nell Scovell. (Knopf.) The chief operating officer of Facebook urges women to pursue their careers without ambivalence.

  2. THE ONE THING, by Gary Keller with Jay Papasan. (Bard.) Narrowing your concentration and becoming more productive.

  3. THE DUCK COMMANDER FAMILY, by Willie and Korie Robertson with Mark Schlabach. (Howard Books.) Behind the scenes at the A&E show “Duck Dynasty.”

  4. ELEVEN RINGS, by Phil Jackson and Hugh Delehanty. (Penguin Press.) An autobiography by the coach who led the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers to multiple N.B.A. championships.

  5. REALITY-BASED RULES OF THE WORKPLACE, by Cy Wakeman. (Jossey Bass/Wiley.) Rules for becoming a valued employee.

  6. UNSTOPPABLES, by Bill Schley. (Wiley.) Tapping your entrepreneurial ability.

  7. THE NEW DIGITAL AGE, by Eric Schmidt and Jared Cohen. (Knopf.) The promise and peril of the continuing information and technology revolution.

  8. START, by Jon Acuff. (Thomas Nelson.) The five stages for doing “work that matters.”

  9. RUMSFELD’S RULES, by Donald Rumsfeld. (Broadside.) Leadership lessons in business, politics, war and life, from the former defense secretary.

  10. GIVE AND TAKE, by Adam M. Grant. (Viking.) A Wharton professor’s research discloses that success depends on how we interact with others.

Of course, just because a book is selling well doesn’t mean it’s necessarily any good. Have you read any of these selections? I’ve only read one (here’s my review of Gary Keller’s The One Thing, in case you missed it). But if you think any of these are worth a review here on the Book Scan, let me know and I’ll scrounge up a copy!
